Cultivation Ranks[]

Etymology[]

This is a section added primarily due to the difference between the English-fan translation of the Novel and the true Chinese meaning.
Original Chinese characters: 不朽 (bùxiǔ) could be translated as either Immortal or less common Undying. Most importantly these characters are present in all its 3 major sub-tiers.
The main gimmick of this Cultivation Realm is its lifespan and in such cases Immortal is more commonly used. However this is just a preference the following translations are the real problem.

  • Immortal Army Lord: 不朽军主(bùxiǔ jūn zhǔ). Now 军主 means either Army Lord or Military Lord and refers to the chief general of an army[1]. So it could also be called General. So this term is actually consistent with the English Novel.
  • Immortal Marquis: 封侯不朽(fēng hóu bùxiǔ). Now 封侯 looking at each character individually it refers to either being granted a noble title or a marquis title. Together these two characters refer to a Marquis or a any Feudal Vassal, not just a Marquis. The English fan translation called this tier "Official". An Official is someone employed by the Imperial Court and does jobs for them, whereas a Feudal Vassal is a Vassal and as such land owner. In the case of a Marquis he is even tasked with defending a border region.
  • Immortal King: 封王不朽(fēng wáng bùxiǔ). Now 封王 refers to being granted the title of king. (wáng)王 is unique to Kings. The title of Emperor 皇帝 (huángdì) was created by the first Emperor in China, Qin Shi Huang, and served as a differentiation to the normal title of King. Furthermore Emperors can have Kings as Vassals, whereas Kings cannot. As such there is a vast difference between King and Emperor which the fan-translation ignored.

The English Fan-Translation Novel terms:

  • Undying General
  • Undying Official
  • Undying Emperor

As both Official and Emperor are wrong, we chose to completely adapt the Chinese (Both Army Lord and General are fine). Between Immortal and Undying it's just a preference to go for the more commonly used word and the more commonly translated word from 不朽. Nonetheless they are quite similar.

Description[]

King Zhenyan - Immortal King

King Zhenyan - Immortal King

Immortal can be considered the lowest tier of a true great being. As the name implies, those who reach Immortal level do not die of natural causes; if they are not killed, they will not die until the universe in which they dwell is destroyed. Immortals are fundamentally different from World Masters, with bodies naturally capable of light-speed travel[2], and formed of Immortal Energy that allows them to manipulate their size at will. If a normal Immortal focuses all of their strength in a single attack, they can completely destroy a planet![3]

As their breakthrough is contingent on mastery of at least one of the Original Laws, their bodies literally contain law energy. Every Immortal can be considered a master of at least the law they used to breakthrough. They are granted the ability to use a Law Domain corresponding to the law they used to breakthrough. As they increase their comprehension of the associated Upper Law, they can also infuse that law in their law domain, but this requires comprehension at least the equivalent of the 13th level of the Tong Tian Bridge.[4]

Due to their Immortal Energy containing both their Genetic Energy and Spirit Energy, all Immortals can perform and have an innate defense to Soul Attacks, making it incredibly difficult for a World Master to damage them through Soul Attacks.[5] Additionally, the fusion of life and soul imprints meant that if an Immortal lost part of their body, they could distinctly sense that body part, even if it was taken tens of light-years away![6] Their bodies, formed by Immortal Energy, could also be burned to amplify their strength a thousandfold, aiding them in attacking or escaping[5]. However, since the Immortal Energy contains their soul imprints, this was used only when necessary, otherwise they would weaken themselves too much.

God Country[]

When a World Master becomes an Immortal their World Master World transforms into a God Country. A God Country serves as part of the foundation of an Immortal's strength, and their evolution results the evolution of their God Country. Obtaining a God Country grants one the use of God Country Transmission to locations at which they have left imprints of their Immortal Energy.

Wealth and Prestige[]

Immortals are much wealthier than World Masters, with even the weakest of them having around 10,000 Mixed Yuan Units of wealth on average. Ordinary Immortals are typically 4 star clients of Universe Star River Bank and/or Universe First Bank[7], while stronger ones would be 5 star clients. Immortal Army Lords and Marquises typically use F Grade spaceships, while Immortal Kings may have G Grade spaceships, spaceships merged with living creatures (like Metal Lifeforms), or even Palace Treasures if they are particularly powerful or lucky.

Rather than having galaxies as their territory, they typically have their own Starfield and run their own medium-sized civilized nation! If they lack ambition, they can simply live as the absolute ruler of their starfield, only respecting the authority of high-ranking members of high-level civilized nations and great powers, such as the Virtual Universe Company (VUC).

As they increase in strength, they may become high-ranking members of Universe Countries and their equivalents for other races, or join great powers. Even an Immortal Marquis like Hu Yan Bo had some level of fame within the Ganwu Universe Country, and those Immortal Marquises with adequate ties to Universe Venerables may call themselves Kings (despite not being Immortal Kings).

Immortal Kings typically belong to only the most powerful of organizations, such as the VUC, but some may choose to reign as solo powers, beholden only to those organizations with relatively loose conditions, such as the Hongmeng or battlefield alliance groups; for example, King Blood Devil and King Black Razor. They are able to build reputations that spread beyond a single Universe Country, and the strongest among them have a bit of status even among the greatest powers in the Original Universe.

Breakthrough[]

Hu Yan Bo (Immortal Marquis) & Team Immortals

Hu Yan Bo - Immortal Marquis (Middle) & Team Immortals

Breaking through to Immortal depends on the lifeform. Normal Humans can break through after fully comprehending a Lower Original Law. Zerg Race Queens, on the other hand, can only break through after comprehending a Lower Original Law as well as either Law of Time or Law of Space .[8] When a cultivator becomes Immortal, their body fundamentally changes to a Divine Body. At that point, the cultivator's soul begins to meld with the body, with every bit of spirit imprint fusing with their cells.[9] This meant that it would be impossible to clearly see the cultivator's soul, so one would not be able to determine their original race. This change to a Divine Body meant that if an Immortal's body was destroyed once, they could reform their body.[10]

When breaking through to Immortal, the size of the cultivator's body is also a factor. During their transformation to a Divine Body, the Law Ocean corresponding to their Original Law, as well as the Universe Origin, provide Divine Power for the user to absorb to form their Divine Body.[11] The absorption rate is limited by their body's surface area, and the maximum amount they can absorb is determined by the body's volume. Hence, larger lifeforms can absorb more Divine Power at a higher rate, creating a stronger Divine Body.

Divine Body[]

For Humans, the strength of the Divine Body they gain on breakthrough is dictated by their Life Gene Level, law comprehension, strength, etc. When breaking through to Immortal, normal Humans with a Life Gene Level of 1 can create a Divine Body with the strength of between 100 and 100,000 Pinnacle World Masters. When one becomes an Immortal, their Divine Body is formed by Immortal Energy, which contains the energies of the Original Law they used to break through. This meant that if one broke through using Law of Earth , for example, it would be very difficult for them to study Law of Wind , unless they were previously recognized by wind law.[12]

The Divine Body will also serve as a reservoir to store Divine Power. While Divine Power can also be regenerated by cultivating, this is extremely slow unless precious treasures are used. As such it's highly advised to try to absorb as much Divine Power as possible during the transformation, to create the strongest possible body. However, there is also a downside to having too large of a Divine Body. The bigger the Divine Body, the more inflexible it is, and if it is too massive, then the cultivator's flying speed will be much slower. Some Special Lifeforms are so big that it is difficult for it to move on its own (for example, World Tree).

As an Immortal reaches a certain level of strength (generally Immortal Marquis), they will obtain the true Immortal Body. At this level, their life and soul imprints are completely merged with their body. Every cell will contain soul imprints, allowing one to reform their body even if their body is annihilated. This brings them extremely close to true immortality, as even their body being completely destroyed will not kill them, if their Divine Power has not been destroyed. As a result, it is very difficult for World Masters to kill Immortals at this stage; generally they would require a special treasure that could destroy Divine Power. However, if one can destroy that Divine Power, the merger of body and soul results in a substantial loss of power if too much Divine Power is lost.

  • With a 10% loss, it has almost no effect on strength.
  • With a 30% loss, the User only has 50% of their strength.
  • With a 50% loss, the User only has 10% of their strength.
  • With a 70% loss, the User only has 1% of their strength.
  • With a 90% loss, the User will fall into a Deep Sleep.

Tiers[]

The Cultivation Level Immortal is typically split into three subcategories based on their strength.[13] However, some Immortals are named Kings despite not meeting the qualifications. This can occur when a Pinnacle Immortal King or higher requests for a Pinnacle Immortal Marquis to be named an Immortal King[14], or when an Immortal Marquis stays in one Universe Country. Typical Universe Countries do not have many, if any Immortal Kings, thus strong Immortal Marquises can call themselves Kings within the Universe Country.[15] True Immortal Kings receive their King title from powerful organizations like the Virtual Universe Company, and typically work for one of said organizations.[15]

Army Lord and Marquis are then further divided into Low, High and Pinnacle.
So an Immortal with a Strength equivalent to 200 World Masters would be classified as an Low Immortal Army Lord.
Whereas an Immortal with a Strength equivalent to 80.000 World Masters would be considered an Pinnacle Immortal King.

Killing an Immortal[]

There are two ways to kill an Immortal

  1. Soul Destruction: This way is achieved by destroying all the Soul Imprints in an Immortal's Body. While their Divine Power will not be lost in this way, after having destroyed (almost) all Soul Imprints, the body will die naturally after a while, similar to being poisoned.[10]
To be able to achieve this step, first of all, there must be a large gap in strength, and secondly, the Killer must be extremely proficient in soul attack methods. As such typically only Spirit Masters are able to perform this. Furthermore the User could also enslave the opponent instead of killing him by turning him into a loyal Soul Slave.
  2. Energy Annihilation: This way is achieved by continuously annihilating the opponents body and Divine Power. Pure energy consumption, which continuously annihilates the opponent's immortal power into nothingness. When an immortal is completely annihilated, without a trace of energy left, a natural death is no longer possible, they will simply vanish with no trace remaining.
To be able to achieve this method, first of all, the User must have an overwhelming advantage in Strength, and secondly, he himself needs to consume an astonishing amount of divine power.

Lifespan[]
