Description[]

Soul Attack (灵魂攻击(Línghún gōngjí), lit. Soul or Spirit Attack, also described as 精神力攻击(Jīngshén lì gōngjí), lit. Spiritual/Mental Force Attack), is a method of attack that is primarily used by Spirit Masters. For cultivators below Immortal, only those who are skilled in using Spirit Energy can use soul attacks, but once a cultivator breaks through to Immortal, due to the fusion of their body and soul to create the Divine Body, they can perform soul attacks to varying levels of ability.[1] Soul attacks can be combined with Illusion Attacks to inhibit the victim's ability to defend themselves. This combination is especially deadly to Warriors, but even other Spirit Masters must exercise vigilance and continue to train in soul defense.[2] They are incredibly fast, even faster than Spirit Weapon attacks[3], and can move to attack weaker or undefended spots.[4] Due to their nature, soul attacks are incredibly dangerous; even having additional bodies will not prevent one from experiencing True Death from a soul attack[5], and even Immortals can die to them if they can't defend themselves.

Below Immortal Level[]

For those below Immortal, soul attacks use Spirit Energy to launch invisible attacks on the soul or consciousness of the victim. Depending on their skill, a Spirit Master can use soul attacks to simply momentarily incapacitate an opponent, to weaken them in preparation for Soul Enslavement, or completely destroy their soul. The combination of mental attacks (soul attacks, Illusion Attacks, etc.) and physical attacks (using Spirit Weapons) constitutes the true power of a Spirit Master.[6]

Immortal Level[]

At the Immortal level, soul attacks use what is called blurry Divine Power (虚化神力(Xū huà shénlì), lit. Blurry/Void/Hollow Divine Power). This form of Immortal Energy can also be used to communicate telepathically, so if one is unfamiliar with someone who attempts to communicate in this manner, they may mistake it for a soul attack and react in anger.[7] Due to the fusion of body and soul, any Immortal can use soul attacks[1], but at the same time, as Immortals get stronger, their defense against soul attacks naturally increases.[8]

Immortals can use soul attacks to bully non-Immortals, but only those skilled at soul attacks can use them to seriously injure other Immortals. This is relatively rare to find; out of dozens of Immortal Kings, there would occasionally be one who was proficient enough to kill another Immortal King through soul attacks.[9] This meant that those Immortals proficient in soul attack (such as Zerg Race Queens) were considered very dangerous opponents and valuable to their allies. Pinnacle Immortal Kings who excelled in soul and illusion attacks were considered as threatening as Limit Immortal Kings![10]

Despite the complexity of soul attacks, if one had sufficient mental strength, consciousness, and law comprehension, they could still create powerful, if crude, soul attacks.[11] There are Special Lifeforms who have natural ability in soul attacks, and each of these is treated as a special talent.

Defense[]

There are many methods to defend against soul attacks. Beings without souls (such as the Mosha Clan) naturally have immunity to soul attacks.[12] Having strong spiritual energy, Consciousness, and Willpower can provide some defense. There are specific soul defense techniques that are effective, such as Tower of the Void and Beast God Roar. It is relatively rare to find materials that can defend against an Immortal's soul attack, so items like the General Armor are incredibly valuable, but they do exist.[13] As Immortals get stronger, they tend to use soul-type Arcana, resulting in them being sought by all strong beings with souls.[14] Palace-type Xeon Arcana, unlike palace-type Arcana below Xeon level, can also defend against soul attacks, adding to their already immense value.[15]
