The Universe Trainee Mercenary Exam (宇宙见习佣兵考核, lit. Universe Trainee/Intern Mercenary Exam/Assessment; 宇宙佣兵联盟考核, lit. Universe Mercenary Alliance Assessment in the donghua) is an exam used by the Universe Mercenary Alliance (UMA) to eliminate Warriors and Spirit Masters who aren't fit to be mercenaries[1]. Trainee Mercenaries are required to take the examination, which they can do once they reach Stellar Level. The elimination and mortality rates are extremely high, up to 90%[2], primarily due to the dangerous situations created within the exam and the dangers from other examinees.
To sign up for the exam, one has to first sign up for Explorer status in-person at a UMA location, then prove that they have reached the Stellar Level and pay 10,000 Black Dragon Coins per applicant[3]. It is advised that lower level Stellar Levels get higher level Stellar Levels that they can trust to join them and create a team to pass the exam, due to the backstabbing and in-fighting between examinees.
The exam always takes place in the World Master World on Cang Lan Planet, World of Thunder. When Luo Feng, Hong, Lei Shen, Ao Gu, and Tie Nan He took the exam, the mission was for each examinee to find 3 Wind Horn Stones and one horn from a One-Horned Iron Rhino and hand them to the UMA employees at the exit of the World of Thunder[3][2].
At the conclusion of the excavation of the World Within a World on Cang Lan Planet, a World Master of the UMA re-designed the World Within a World to be used as a secret location for the UMA to train its members. The World of Thunder thus ceased being the examination world for this exam[4].
